Let’s Talk About Mushrooms

We’ve got reishi, lion’s mane, and cordycep militaris mushrooms as the stars of the handcrafted adaptogen blend for the Green+ formula. Here’s some more information about these fascinating members of our ecosystems that also live in this powerful wellness blend:

Lion’s mane mushroom contains erinacines and hericenones, compounds which stimulate the synthesis of nerve growth factor (NGF), a protein responsible for the growth and survival of neurons (brain cells). It has a well known reputation of: supporting brain health, improving cognitive function, reducing mild symptoms of anxiety and depression, protecting against chronic inflammation, and fighting tumors. Although all the mushrooms in the adaptogen blend are powerful, lion’s mane is especially compatible with health aids like matcha as it emphasizes it’s brain boosting benefits and encourages balance more than anything else.

Reishi mushroom, also known as ganoderma lucidum and lingzhi, grows in various hot and humid locations in Asia. For many years, this mushroom has been a staple in Eastern medicine as it was cherished for its ability to nourish the heart and safeguard ‘shen’ (the Chinese word for the concept of a person's individual soul, the consciousness that is housed within the heart)! A disconnection from or disruption of our shen can manifest as anxiety, moodiness, and poor memory. Within the mushroom, there are several molecules, including triterpenoids, polysaccharides and peptidoglycans, that may be responsible for its health effects. Reishi has long been known for supporting the immune system, calming and reducing stress, improving the quality of sleep, hosting potential cancer-fighting properties, helping fight fatigue and depression, boosting heart health and may even help with blood sugar control.

Cordyceps are thought to increase the production of a molecule known as ATP (adenosine triphosphate) in the body, which plays a key role in delivering energy to the muscles. This helps deliver improvements to physical performance and assists in the fight against fatigue and lethargy. Additionally, it’s known to help reduce inflammation, improve respiratory function, and contain anti-tumor properties. Some findings also suggest that the cordyceps’ polypeptides may improve learning and memory by scavenging oxygen free radicals, preventing oxidative damage, and protecting the nervous system.
